Whitney contributed three songs to the soundtrack: the #1 Billboard Hot 100 single “Exhale (Shoop Shoop)” and hits “Count On Me” and “Why Does It Hurt So Bad.” Whitney personally selected the artists who appeared on the soundtrack, which hit #1 on the Billboard 200 chart, topped the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and sold more than 12 million copies worldwide. It won the GRAMMY for Best R&B Song for “Exhale (Shoop Shoop).” The movie opened at #1 in North America and its success sparked a wave of black ensemble films that followed.
